Parent Connect Community

Like many parents, I've experienced the joy, the heartbreak, the guilt and the incredible privilege of raising children. Those experiences have shaped who I am today. Through speaking, writing, mentoring and my Parent Connect Community, I encourage parents to pause, reflect and discover that understanding themselves is often the first step to changing their parenting. My goal is simple—to help parents feel less alone and more confident in the important work they're already doing.

Parent to Parent

Jennifer Morrison is passionate about strengthening families and building connected communities.

As a Parenting Mentor, Speaker, Author and Founder of the Parent Connect Community, Jennifer helps parents understand that we learn how to parent long before we become parents. Her work encourages parents to reflect on their own experiences, develop greater self-awareness and build calmer, more confident relationships with their children.

Jennifer is the host of the Parent to Parent – Parenting Unfiltered podcast and is a regular presenter at community groups and parenting events. She believes parenting is a lifetime of learning, and that stronger families create stronger communities.

Distinguished and Famous people from Paroo

📚 Herb Wharton

Herb Wharton was born at Yumba near Cunnamulla in 1936 and spent many years working as a stockman, drover and labourer before beginning to write in his fifties. Unbranded, published in 1992, drew on that experience, while Cattle Camp preserved histories told by Aboriginal stockmen and women. Yumba Days turned towards his own early life. A Kooma Elder, he gained national literary recognition and travelled internationally as a storyteller. His work brought knowledge of inland working life into print through a voice formed within it. Wharton died in 2026, leaving books that keep both individual experience and other people’s recollections in circulation.

🎵 Stan Coster and Slim Dusty

Stan Coster’s Cunnamulla Fella became widely known through Slim Dusty’s recording, giving the town a durable place in country music. Slim and his touring party also performed in Cunnamulla over the years. The statue unveiled in 2005 commemorates the working stockmen represented by the song and that musical association. The character represents the stockmen celebrated by the song. Coster and Slim belong here through a specific creative work and performance connection, while the fictional fella gives the town an unusually recognisable character without requiring anybody to invent his birth certificate.

🐑 Helen Newton Turner

Helen Newton Turner’s wool research included merino sheep-breeding experiments at Cunnamulla. An architecture graduate who first entered scientific work as a secretary, she became a leading animal geneticist and statistician. Her research helped replace judgements made mainly by eye with systematic measurement of inherited wool characteristics. She worked with breeders, published widely and explained scientific methods to country audiences, including through the ABC’s Country Hour. Cunnamulla was one of the documented experimental locations in that career. The connection places the district within research that linked practical sheep breeding with careful statistical investigation.
